Vintage GUATEMALAN Dazzeler Framed Tapestry Weaving Rug COMALAPA BackS for sale in Saint Louis, Texas

$95

This is a gorgeous, colorful, dazzler weaving from the small town of Comalapa in Guatemala in the 1980's. Comalapa has grown steadily since the 1800's and has become a center of folk art. My friend found his way into town when he visited there.
This tapestry was created by the artists using the backstrap loom technique by women where they use a strap over their backs to tighten the vertical strands with the opposite end tied to a tree or pole. Using this technique, the weave is a bit looser than the other technique using the feet (usually by men). This wonderful piece has been framed to become a piece of dynamic artwork. The gold leaf frame is approx 41" wide by 22" high - a nice large size that really makes a statement.
41 x 22
Enjoy!
